We are people. We are the voice and the protectors of those who cannot protect themselves. We educate through our donations and community strength. We protect the inherent rights of all creatures through activism and pride in our own communities. When most are talking the talk, we walk the walk. We produce results by way of our individual drive and cohesive group activism. We are the Do Nation.

Our programs include:
Community awareness
We continually conduct community awareness campaigns through local media designed to increase adoptions of sheltered animals, promote responsible pet ownership, and encourage the spay and neuter of dogs and cats. Our special events held throughout the year also help to send the message that animals need protection and respect.
Humane education
We developed a special Humane Education program of K-12 age school children which touches more than 7,000 Peoria County students each year. These age-appropriate programs teach children humane and compassionate treatment of animals, safety around animals, responsible pet ownership, and respect for all living things. The Education Department provides teachers with materials and resources to enhance and support the ideal that animals and people are deserving of respect. Additionally, the Peoria Humane Society's Humane Educator offers educational programs and tours at the Peoria Animal Welfare Shelter (PAWS), adult educational opportunities and programs addressing the link between animal cruelty and human violence is also offered.

Low cost spay/neuter clinic
Our low-cost spay/neuter clinic sterilizes thousands of dogs and cats who would otherwise continue to contribute to the tragedy of pet overpopulation. In a cooperative program with the Peoria County Veterinary Medical Association, dogs and cats are sterilized by a licensed veterinarian at a cost of $50 for low income pet owners. Spaying and neutering animals in the community will reduce the number of dogs and cats that are received at area shelters and ultimately destroyed.
Veterinary care to animal victims of cruelty
Animals found in an abused or neglected condition often require more care than the animal shelter can give. This program assists the shelter to rehabilitate animals and adopt them into loving homes.
Pet therapy and volunteer programs
Our Special Pals program provides regular friendly visits from volunteers and animals to residents at area nursing homes, hospitals and other long-term care facilities. Volunteers take certified therapy dogs to visit clients or patients who are unable to have their pets with them. Many other volunteer opportunities exist that enable individuals to ease the plight of animals in our community.
Volunteers are needed to do a variety of things: walk dogs at PAWS, help with fundraising efforts, and assist with community events.
