Happy Tails

Buster Dog

PAWS Alumni - Buster

When Debra Yang began volunteering for the Peoria Humane Society/PAWS in April, 2007, she promised her family that she wouldn’t work with the dogs. Because she is a “dog person,” they worried that their house wouldn’t be big enough for all the dogs Debra would bring home. Fortunately, Debra also loves cats so she began working in the cat room every other weekend.

Two months later, she decided to take a walk through the dog kennel. Here is Debra’s story: “There was one lonely face in the dog kennel that just fixed his eyes on me no matter where I walked. He didn’t bark or jump – he just watched me. When I went to his cage, he came closer and tried to lick my hand through the cage. I couldn’t get his face out of my mind that day, so before I left my shift, I went back to the dog kennel. Same thing – he didn’t take his eyes off me, but this time he began to wag his tail. I called my husband who came down to look at the dog.

That’s all it took – Buster has been with us ever since then. At PAWS he was a very underweight 58 pounds and now weighs 90 pounds, where he should be. He thinks he’s a lap dog. He still has a puppy personality. We had absolutely no problems with him. The only thing is he can easily push us out of bed when he stretches. Yes, he does sleep with me. I swore that would never happen, but he has my heart now. Oh – and by the way – I couldn’t get away with just Buster. We have another new baby as well – her name is Daisy – from the cat room.”

Sammy Dog

PAWS,

I wanted to share with you how delighted we are with the dog we adopted from PAWS about a year ago. Sammy is very sweet and good natured, which is exactly what we were looking for!

We are repeat “customers” of PAWS, having adopted a Husky and a German Shepherd back in ‘93/’94. After they died, we considered other sources for our next dog, but PAWS seemed to work the best for us. We love the fact that we’re saving lives!

Keep up the good work!

Otis Dog

Otis Bushell

Hello all at Peoria Animal Shelter,

I just want to pop a couple of pictures to you so you see where Mr Otis is now living. In these pictures he is with one of his new sisters, Maxxii. She will not leave his side. The other sister, Jackson, is just now warming up to him. (I think there was a little jealousy going on.)

Otis runs with Max and Jackson on 80 acres of land with a pond. He loves to drink the water, but has no desire to get in it. We absolutely love this little guy even though he seems to wake up before the sun does.

Thank you for doing what you do. They are all worth it.

Laurie Bushell and the Bushell bunch!!

p.s. He loves the cats but they do not feel the same. This makes him so sad.

Ashes Cat

Angie and Ashes

In December of 2004 we adopted two cats from PetsMart (sent from PAWS). The cats names were Angie and Ashes, and they were 3 and 4 year old female cats. We have had both for a while now, and wanted to send in some pictures to show how happy they are in their new home.
