Peoria Humane Society

About Us

The Peoria Humane Society was formed by a small group of dedicated individuals committed to helping animals in the Peoria community. After years of struggling to conduct cruelty investigations and house homeless animals with little funding, the PHS Board of Directors collaborated with the City of Peoria in 1980 to professionalize the animal control program and improve the welfare of animals throughout Peoria.County  The Peoria Humane Society County of Peoria, and City of Peoria formed a three way partnership and raised funds to build the current animal shelter located at 2600 NE Perry Ave. in Peoria in 1992.

Peoria County offers a progressive animal control and animal welfare program through services offeredthrough PCAPS (Peoria County Anima Protection Services). Freed from the responsibility of funding a shelter, the Peoria Humane Society can devote our time, effort, and funds to increasing the adoption of shelter animals, providing medical care for abused and neglected animals, funding spay/neuter programs for pets, providing resources and support to pet owners in need, promoting kindness to all living beings,  and encouraging the human-animals bond through pet therapy programs. We strive to create a humane community through a variety of programs that benefit animals and people in the Peoria area.

Our Mission:

Peoria Humane Society is dedicated to creating a more compassionate community by preventing animal cruelty, providing supportive resources, promoting responsible pet ownership, and inspiring kindness through education and public awareness.
